Chrismas Eve

by SR on December 24, 2006

Just getting light out and the snow is my favorite color — lavender! Already I smell the egg and green chilies casserole baking, and Anna has a pinon fire roaring in the great room. How could there be a more perfect start to the day?
Robert will meet me in the Plaza this morning. We’ll have lunch at the Plaza Cafe and visit with his friends at the Portal. They have been asking about him, so the mornings visits should be good for his spirits. We plan to clown around in front of the webcam for friends a little later!
It will be a full day and a tiny nap is in order for the afternoon. At dusk, I will be going with Robert to the Santa Clara Pueblo plaza for lighting of the Christmas Eve pitch fires. As I drove back from Espanola last night, the smoke was heavy in thin layers that looked like veils in the trees! The fires are lit each night of the Christmas season by the pueblos.
And then back for Midnight Mass at the Cathedral. A Holy Day, to be sure
