Trains

We see lots of them going across the desert.  Back and forth.  Loaded with double-decked cargo.  Even a passenger train goes by us!

This isn’t the Orient Express, but it’s pretty close to heaven — the thought of being on a train and crossing this colorful desert!  Until we see the trestle across the Pecos River Gorge.  Lucky we don’t have to be on a train crossing that!

So, we take lots of train photos with the expectation of trying them as watercolor topics when we get home.

Moving on …

An ink-spotted pony caught my eye somewhere west of Langtry. His lips were puffing up little swirls of dust as he searched the barren ground for food. We picked grass and fed him through the fence.

We didn’t get the full impression of “Law West of the Pecos” at Judge Roy Bean’s saloon until we actually crossed the Pecos River Gorge! This was an isolated area of Texas, just a stone’s throw away from Mexico. A desolate place of great geological charm.
