Calcasieu Parish

Corbello homeWe are finally here. So much to see and do, and we are overwhelmed. One thing at a time. We stopped and asked a lot of questions and directions of locals — and they must have really been laughing at us! We weren’t in Goose-Port, it was Gauze-Port (Goosport). Mermentau is Mer Men Tow. DeCuir is pronounced De Queer, instead of De Sewer. It was funny.

We found old homesteads on Bayou Anglais. An ancient cemetery hidden in the trees right on the water. Information about the family’s involvement in the Civil War, and perhaps even the Battle of New Orleans. Librarians and locals were all very helpful, so the trip was fruitful.

Did I mention how hot it was?
